The Red Deer Firefighters Guard of Honour is a ceremonial unit consisting of 15 volunteer members in good standing of Local 1190. They represent the City of Red Deer and Local 1190 at various department ceremonial and memorial functions.
The Guard was established by members of the Local who wished to honour the tradition and sacrifices made by past members of the International Association of Firefighters. Through funding from both the City of Red Deer and the Local 1190 the Guard was made a reality in 2002.
In January 2010, Red Deer honoured Al Walker, who was our city’s first line of duty death under the presumptive cancer legislation. Al Walker passed away at age 68, after retiring from the department in 1996 following 31 years of service.
