Red Deer Announced as Host of 2010 IAFF Hockey Tournament

On Wednesday evening at the Anchor Pub, tournament organizer Brian Leigh of Local 1264 Anchorage, Alaska made the anticipated announcement of the host local for the 2010 IAFF hockey tournament.  Red Deer put in a bid to host and was officially announced as the host for the tournament in 2010.  Red Deer Local 1190 last hosted the tournament in 2003 which was deemed very successful.  Red Deer’s tournament organizer Pete Barron could not be reached for comment last night as the roaming charges from Telus would have broke the bank.  Kevin Stelmaschuk, manager of the B team up in Anchorage said upon accepting the announcement “it is great news that we are hosting the tournament next year.  Thank you to Brian and all of Local 1264 for putting on a great and memorable event up here in Anchorage…we have wanted to have it (the tournament) back in Red Deer for the past few years.  We look forward to hosting and hope to put on a great show for the brothers of the IAFF.”

Typically the tournament is held in the first week of April but the date has been moved ahead a week due to ice availabilty in the city.  The tournament will be March 23-26, 2010.  We look forward to hosting and for inquiries please don’t hesisitate to email iaff1190@preview.reddeerfirefighters.orgshaw.ca and check http://preview.reddeerfirefighters.org for updates pertaining to registration and events for the upcoming tournament.
